How to commission a portrait

Commissioning a portrait is really very simple, first please have a look through my galleries and decide whether you would like your portrait done in graphite pencil, pastel or coloured pencil. Then decide which size you would like. Please see here for my size guide if you are not sure.

Then drop me a line, you can reach me via email, phone, or via social media, and I will endeavour to answer your query as soon as possible.

You will then need to email/post me your chosen photographs. All I need is one VERY clear and well lit shot that is perfectly in focus and a good likeness. I prefer to see several 'character' shots as well to give me a sense of their character. If you are unsure you can email a selection for us to discuss.

When we have agreed, I will advise you of my current lead time (often several weeks so book in advance!) and give you a date for starting your portrait. I then take 20% of the total payment as a non refundable deposit. This can be done via paypal, BACS transfer or cheque.

Prices for my portraits are outlined below:

Size Medium Total price

A5 ( Graphite pencil only) £55.00

A4 Graphite or pastel from £110.00

A3 Graphite or pastel from £160.00

Prices quoted are for one pet/person, multiple subjects will be quoted on request depending on the quality of photographs and poses/detail.

All portraits will come with a shaded/light background (but plain if requested). I can also draw a full background, this will cost a little more and will be quoted on request depending on the complexity.

I can offer payment plans, please ask for details.

I have also done other portraits on a much larger scale and these will be quoted on request. Please just ask if you would like a custom size or shape, I will try to accommodate all requests.

All prices include presentation in a high quality white mount and backing (for A5 and A4 portraits only) and 1st class recorded delivery with Royal mail. International orders will be subject to a further delivery charge, this will be quoted on time of booking.

I take great time and care over all of my portraits. I only use artists professional materials all of which are archival, light fast and of the best quality. They can take me anywhere up to 15 hours to complete so you can rest assured that your commission is in good hands. Here is a little break down of how the process will work.....

I will start your portrait by doing a rough sketch of the composition for your approval.

When you're happy I will continue your portrait and send you progress photo's a long the way.

When finished I will email you a watermarked high resolution photo for you to approve.

When you are happy, I will ask you to pay your outstanding balance, as soon as this is cleared, I send you your portrait. If you would like a price in another currency, please just ask me.

Please look at the time-lapse video beneath as an example of how I create my portraits.
